Synopsis

In a city inhabited by large, dancing, frightening shadows that sip all the words, where the characters wander fearful and dispossessed of their mouths, a child dares to graph, to write. From this daring comes the direct confrontation with the shadow but also an unexpected initiatory friendship of learning with a bird.

Concept

This project is born from a series of desires that are directly related to the place of the word within human construction, desires that present themselves as images of urgency to think about some dimensions of the way in which it, the word, can establish itself as a vehicle of understanding, reflection and transformation of the world, that is, as an engine of reality and realisation. Thinking about the word is simultaneously thinking about its graphic, semantic and poetic dimension, but also about its use in social, affective, identity and even political construction. But it is above all about “graphs” that this film desire is about: trying to visualize through the tools of cinema and drawing a possible path of meaning for a relationship of poetic creation and deep assimilation. It is anattempt to visualize, through the tools of cinema and drawing, a possible pathof meaning for a relationship of poetic creation and deep assimilation of theword, as well as a way of rekindling the cities (the ones of stone and lime andthe interior ones); and thus to write (record, inscribe) a narrative oftransforming possibility that re-establishes at the same time the individualdiscovery of the translucent power of language and its collective wonder, whichis the sharing of learning,  of thelively and luminous conversation that only the distance chooses to hear as abuzz. In this journey of the encounter with words, we are fascinated by what isinitiatory in the first and infantile act of naming the things of the world(the initial magic that allows us to be in the world as something inhabitable, that more than naming something that already existed, seems to create it at theexact moment of pronouncing or writing its name, as well as its opposite, theencounter with the unnameable or with death, emptiness that no word inhabitsbut flanks); It is also fascinating to see the proximity between a washed wordand a clear image, the possible encounter with the other, the construction ofoneself and of a place to fight against the darkness of the not understood, amovement of occupation of the real, a never ending negotiation of anunderstanding of “me” and of “us”. But “a picture isworth a thousand words” and if we stop for a moment to listen to thissentence we will notice that: it is a sentence. Not exactly an image. But it isalso an image, or rather, it generates, evokes an image. And we laugh. And itis from the oblique smile of the realisation of these brotherhoods between word, image and drawing, of their fertile mismatches and tangents, of the absolutepower that we are taken by and which is, after all, some kind of will to”say” bird, shadow, lap, light, morning, embrace, city, whole, free, and that all that is said should be true things in the world, that this film isfed. Or, it is simply a story of love and fear of a boy with the world throughthe discovery of a bird, a desire of childhood and clarity.

Palavra

Sinopse
