Synopsis
Displaced by the Second World War, a troop of Polish soldiers find an inseparable bond through an orphaned bear they name Wojtek.
A BEAR NAMED WOJTEK tells the fantastic journey of an orphaned Syrian brown bear who was adopted by Polish soldiers during World War II, becoming a beacon of hope and an emblem of their fate.

A Bear Named Wojtek is an animated half hour special which took its inspiration from timeless classics such as ‘The Snowman’, ‘Crac!” and ‘The Man Who Planted Trees’.
Our story follows the Polish 22nd Artillery Corps during WWII who adopt an orphaned Syrian Brown Bear as their mascot – naming him ‘Wojtek’. The theme of people displaced by conflict is, sadly, forever relevant.
Whilst based on true events, our film is not an animated documentary. I am interested in how within our cultures and traditions we create mythologies in nature to reflect our human experience. Wojtek becomes a metaphor for the refugee.

Deslocados pela Segunda Guerra Mundial, um grupo de soldados polacos encontra um laço inseparável através de um urso órfão a que dão o nome de Wojtek.
UM URSO CHAMADO WOJTEK conta a fantástica viagem de um urso órfão castanho da Síria que foi adotado por soldados polacos durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial, tornando-se um farol de esperança e um emblema do seu destino.

Um Urso Chamado Wojtek é um especial de animação de meia hora que se inspirou em clássicos intemporais como “O Boneco de Neve”, “Crac!” e “O Homem que Plantava Árvores”.
A nossa história segue o 22º Corpo de Artilharia Polaco durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial, que adopta um urso órfão castanho da Síria como sua mascote, dando-lhe o nome de “Wojtek”. O tema das pessoas deslocadas por conflitos é, infelizmente, sempre atual.
Embora baseado em factos reais, o nosso filme não é um documentário de animação. Interessa-me a forma como, nas nossas culturas e tradições, criamos mitologias na natureza para refletir a nossa experiência humana. Wojtek torna-se uma metáfora do refugiado.
