In an old library in the Indian city of Ahmedabad, INÉS, a Spanish animation director discovers Sultana’s Dream, a science fiction short story written in the Bengal of 1905 set in LADYLAND, a feminist utopia where women are liberated and mistresses of their own destiny in a bold reversal of the gender structures of Indian Muslim society prevalent in 1905. Author of this futurist story is Begum Rokeya Shekhawat Hossain who became one of the most prominent Bengali Muslim feminists of the early twentieth century. Fascinated and inspired by this compelling work, INÉS decides to make an animated film portraying the lives, words and dreams of women through a contemporary interpretation and embellishment of Sultana’s Dream.

Numa antiga livraria na cidade indianade Ahmedabad, INÊS, uma realizadora de cinema de animação espanhola, descobre O Sonho da Sultana,um conto de ficção científica escrito na Bengala de 1905 situado em LADYLAND,uma utopia feminista onde as mulheres são livres e donas do seu próprio destinoem uma inversão ousada das estruturas de género da sociedade muçulmana indiana predominante em 1905. A autora desta história futurista é Begum Rokeya Shekhawat Hossain que se tornou uma das mais proeminentes feministas muçulmanas bengalis do início do século XX. Fascinada e inspirada por este trabalho convincente, INÊS decide fazer um filme de animação do Sonho de Sultana, retratando as vidas, palavras e sonhos das mulheres, através de uma interpretação e estética contemporâneas.
